Yard Chief Yard Care, Inc. was founded in Anchorage, Alaska in 1998 by a retired Chief Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force.  Yard Chief Yard Care is a Certified Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business. Yard Chief is also a registered government contractor.

Yard Chief Yard Care specializes in: Cemetery Operations, Grounds Maintenance, New Landscaping, Plant Care – indoor and outdoor, Snow Plowing/Removal, Winter Sanding, Pesticide Applications, and Janitorial.

Cemetery Operations:

 Fort Richardson National Cemetery JBER, Alaska

We are the current incumbent at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. We started with performing grounds maintenance services for Fort Richardson National Cemetery in 2000.  We began performing burials as an emergency on-call service, graduating to performing contracted burials in 2006.  Fort Richardson National Cemetery has developed an additional six (6) acres since the beginning of this contract.  It’s increased from 3300 interments to 5600 since we have had the contract. A new Interment Shelter has also been added to the property. On average, we perform 200 interments per year, to include casket and cremated remains. Work under this contract includes: supervision, labor, equipment, tools, supplies, and materials to maintain this cemetery on a year-round basis.  This cemetery is comprised of 39.1 acres, of which 30 are currently developed. Daily operations to include: interment operations, grounds maintenance services, integrated pest management (IPM), facility maintenance services, headstone and grave marker: receipt, inspect, installation, cleaning, raising, and realignment; ceremonial protocol set up, integrated pest management, and snow plowing.

 Sitka National Cemetery Sitka, Alaska

As of October 2010, Yard Chief was awarded the Sitka National Cemetery (SNC) Contract. Under this contract, we are responsible for interment operations, integrated pest management (IPM), grounds maintenance services, facility maintenance services, headstone and grave marker: receipt, inspection, installation, cleaning, raising, and realignment; ceremonial protocol set up, janitorial services, snow plowing, and limited administrative duties. SNC is located remotely in Southeast Alaska approximately 100 miles east of Juneau on Baranof Island.  We provide all labor, supervision, equipment, supplies, and materials consistent with the management of this remotely located six point one (6.1) acre National Cemetery.  We operate independently on this contract with a minimum of daily direct VA guidance. We are also charged with and exercise a degree of expertise and judgment in our management and discharge of the contract’s duties.  The Cemetery Director’s office is located at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery on JBER and not on Baranof Island.  We work very closely with the Cemetery Director in order to ensure national shrine standards are maintained at all times.

Municipality of Anchorage, Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery

We are the current incumbent for the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery with approximately 20 acres located in downtown Anchorage. Under this contract we are responsible to supply supervision and labor for grounds maintenance, casket and cremation burial services, setting grave markers, monument pads, columbarium wall plaques, and gravesite renovations. In addition we’re charged with planting and maintaining flower beds as well as snow plowing in the winter.  All supplies, materials and equipment is provided by Municipality of Anchorage Department of Health and Human Services.  The Cemetery Director directs all work related to this contract as to how it is accomplished and when.

Sitka Memorial Park Cemetery Sitka, Alaska

Yard Chief performs interment operations, integrated pest management (IPM), grounds maintenance services, facility maintenance services, headstone and grave marker: receipt, inspection, installation, and ceremonial protocol set up as well as limited administrative duties.. We provide all labor, supervision, equipment, supplies, and materials consistent with the management of the six (6) acre Memorial Park Cemetery. We operate independently on this contract.

National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

NOAA Office of Law Enforcement, Alaska Enforcement Division Seward, Alaska – Contractor provides all supervision, labor, equipment, materials, and supplies for this janitorial contract. Cleaning requirements set forth in the contract require basic cleaning services.

National Weather Service Office Barrow, Alaska – Contractor provides all supervision, labor, equipment, materials, and supplies for this janitorial contract. Cleaning requirements set forth in the contract require basic cleaning services twice week; additional task requirements monthly and annually.

National Weather Service Office Metlakatla, Alaska – Contractor provide all supervision, labor, equipment and supplies for this janitorial contract. Cleaning requirements set forth in the contract require basic cleaning services weekly. Additional task requirements included.

Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project (ARMY)

US Army of Engineer District, AK North Pole, Alaska – Contractor provides all supervision, labor, equipment, materials, and supplies for this janitorial contract. Cleaning requirements set forth in the contract require basic cleaning services twice week, additional task requirements monthly, semi-annually, and annually.

Alaska Radar System (ARCTEC)

Current contractor since August 2012 – Requirements to perform daily custodial tasks for two buildings on JBER, Alaska. One location has daily services Monday – Friday, and the second location has services three times a week. One location is in a secure building with strict access. Tasks include: basic cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming, dust, mop, trash, and restrooms. Windows (exterior and interior) and carpet cleaning annually.

Grounds Maintenance:

 Alaska Veterans Affair Healthcare System Borough of Anchorage, Alaska

Current contractor required to provide all management, labor, and transportation necessary to perform summer grounds maintenance and selected winter maintenance services for the Domiciliary Homeless Veterans Service and the Transitional Housing Residences. This includes mowing, trimming/edging, soil management, weeding, planting/transplanting of floral/vegetation, pruning, fertilizing, irrigating, cleaning sidewalks, and removing snow from sidewalks and entryways. Additional requirements include painting/staining picnic tables, outside benches, redwood landscaping timbers around flower beds and storage sheds as well as the upkeep of parking lots, sidewalks, curbs, and street areas. Parking lots are required to be striped, and curbs color coded to designate parking authorizations.

Selected winter maintenance includes the daily monitoring for ice and snow. Snow is to be removed at every 2 inches and ice melt applied any time conditions are slippery.

The contractor is also required to maintain all VA owned tools and equipment (powered and non-powered).

 National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

National Weather Service Office Anchorage, Alaska – Current contractor to provide all management, supervision, labor, materials, supplies, and equipment to provide efficient snow and ice removal services.  This includes snow plowing, blowing, brushing, sweeping or shoveling of the sidewalks, parking lots and roadways to ensure safe passage of personnel and vehicular traffic.

Parking lots and roadways are plowed whenever there is a snow accumulation of 3 inches or more. Sidewalks/flagpole/building entrance and exit areas are cleared when there is any snow accumulation and ice melt is applied to ensure personnel safety. Daily checks are also performed to monitor driving/walking conditions. Fire hydrants and dumpsters are shoveled out to enhance fire safety and ease of accessibility.

National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

We are the current contractor for summer lawn maintenance at the Anchorage Weather Forecast Office. Contract requirements are to provide all management, supervision, labor, materials, supplies, and equipment necessary to perform identified routine and recurring lawn maintenance services. These services include mowing, edging/trimming, pruning of trees and shrubs, and removal of all debris. This also includes all actions required for spring and fall clean-up services.

 State of Alaska Department of Transportation – Various locations in Anchorage

Current contractor required to perform summer lawn maintenance services per contract to various locations within Anchorage area.  All supervision, labor, equipment, materials, and supplies provided by the contractor.  Maintenance includes but not limited to Spring clean-up, application of soil amendments, lawn maintenance (approved bi-weekly schedule), watering (if required), weed control, and re-seeding lawn. All work approved by Project Manager.

Anchorage School District – Girdwood, Alaska (ASD) (starts spring 2018)

Contractor required to perform summer lawn maintenance services per contract to school grounds located in Girdwood, AK.  All supervision, labor, equipment, materials, and supplies provided by the contractor.  Maintenance includes lawn maintenance.

Past Projects

Department of Veteran Affairs (VA)

Care of Atrium Plants at the VA Domiciliary Anchorage, Alaska 2006 -2010.  Contractor requirements: care for plants in the atrium of the Domiciliary. These work requirements were performed on a weekly schedule. Tasks included: watering, pruning, and fertilizing all plants.  If plants were damaged or died off, the plants were replaced.

National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

National Weather Service Office Valdez, Alaska – Office closed April 30, 2015. Work under this contract was professional janitorial cleaning. Cleaning requirements were a basic cleaning scheduled twice a week, additional tasks were scheduled for once a week and annually. Contractor provided all supervision, labor, equipment, supplies, and materials to perform all requirements within this contract.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)

Biorka Island Transient Quarters – Services on a monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual basis.  Water taxied to the island – located approximately 13 miles South of Sitka Airport, requires marine access.  All equipment and supplies required for contract performance are supplied by the contractor.

Sitka National Cemetery Millennium Project – Raise, Realign, and Clean Headstones

Contractor provided all supervision, administrative services, labor, vehicles, equipment, and materials necessary for Gravesite Restoration to include but not limited to Raise, Realign, Reset & Clean 876 Headstones/ 10 Markers and Renovate the Turf, at Sitka National Cemetery. These services include: area surveying, headstone data verification and inspection, raising, realigning, and cleaning of headstones along with turf renovation and installing new sod.
